What is EFT Therapy?

EFT or Emotional Freedom Technique is a form of Energy Psychology, also called Tapping. Tapping provides relief from anxiety, post traumatic stress disorder, addictions, chronic pain, phobias, and physical diseases. While Tapping is newly introduced to the field of health and wellness, the healing concepts that it's based upon have been in practice in Eastern medicine for over 5,000 years. Like acupuncture, Tapping is a set of techniques which utilizes the body's energy meridian points. You stimulate these meridian points by tapping on them with your fingertips while you talk about your problem. EFT helps balance the mind and body by combining the elements of western talk therapy and eastern energy medicine.

This combination of tapping on the energy meridians and voicing positive affirmation works to clear the "short-circuit" - the emotional block -- from your body's bioenergy system, thus restoring your mind and body's balance which is essential for optimal health and the healing of physical disease. EFT is based on the electromagnetic energy that flows through your body and helps regulate health.

History of EFT

EFT was introduced around 1995 by Gary Craig, following another mind-body method called Thought Field Therapy, or TFT. In the 1980s, Thought Field Therapy or TFT was developed by Dr. Roger Callahan, a clinical psychologist, who found that it helped people naturally manage symptoms of anxiety, traumas and physical problems related to stress. In 1995 Gary Craig modified the TFT technique to be more user-friendly and called his modality Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

Because of EFT's very high rate of success, the use of EFT has spread rapidly.

One of the best things about EFT is that it can be done anywhere, at any time, quickly and without the use of any equipment, medications or supplements.

  • Studies by the Harvard Medical School revealed that Tapping can drastically reduce or eliminate stress in the amygdala.
  • Dr. Dawson Church, one of the world's leading experts on energy psychology, conducted a study where the cortisol levels were measured on participants after one hour of Tapping. The results showed a reduction of 24%-50% in cortisol levels - compared to the control group who experienced a nearly insignificant reduction!
  • A study from Energy Psychology Journal confirmed that the benefits from EFT are the result of the Tapping process and not a placebo effect.
